BNW ESSAY

Being someone you aren’t is a big factor in life, because many people pretend to be someone they aren’t. In the story Brave New World one character stands out the most, John. This man pretends to be someone he isn’t through the whole story.
It all starts in a busy place known as the hospital. John realizes how the “maggots” are lined up for their daily ration of soma. He also realizes that Linda has been made into a slave, so he tells all Deltas that the soma is poison but no one understands him. Then Deputy Sub- Bursar asks John to leave but once John says he’s bringing back freedom and then yells at the Deltas and calls them “babies” which leads him to throwing out their soma out of the window. This caused all the Deltas to go crazy because their drug was just thrown out the window, they all charge towards John, but all he was trying to do was bring freedom to all. But of course the Deltas don’t understand that and they are mad because their narcotic was just thrown out the window. As you can see, John is the only one who is living in the real world which later on leads him to having some feelings so someone who he thought he would never.
John is known for being different than everyone else of course. He is the one who doesn’t take soma. They live in a society where parents don’t exist. One day John sees Lenina fast asleep laying down. He was admiring her beauty, at this point he was obsessed with Lenina. He was hesitant about doing anything with Lenina while she was unconscious. He suddenly finds himself hold her zipper and give it one long and strong pull. Meaning that he may have had sexual intercourse with Lenina while she was unconscious and deep down he was ashamed of himself for what he did . As you can tell John is the “outsider” he’s the one who thinks for himself, he doesn’t depend on drugs to keep him happy. He had a different sense of reality than everyone else.
